Can Adi take on our tricky teasers and win? Let’s find out.

You’re on a long-haul flight and can only choose one TV Show or Movie to watch on repeat, which is your pick?

I would go with Peaky Blinders or Inception, both are very dramatic and thrilling to watch. I love the main characters and how they play their roles.

If you were stranded on a desert island with one book for company, what would it be?

I’m not a big reader to be fair but I’d take Jetzt!, die Kraft von Heute! or in English The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. Being stranded on a desert island is basically the ultimate lesson in living in the present moment and that book is all about appreciating the ‘now’ instead of worrying about the past or the future.

What’s the song you could listen to on repeat forever?

That’s a tough one ‘cause I love music and I listen to basically every genre but I’d take Eminem’s Lose Yourself or When I’m Gone.  At the moment, I’m in love with techno and deep house.

What’s your favourite place to play poker and why?

I love Cyprus, as everything around is just perfect. It’s next to the sea, the weather is always nice, the hotels are perfect with big rooms, a nice gym and a spa. The playing area is very nice as well, including the buffet basically 24/7 with very good food. All in all it’s a 10/10 experience.

If you were to be shot at dawn, what would be your last meal and drink?

I’d have to take Wiener Schnitzel, haha! Born and raised in Vienna, that’s my favorite food since childhood. For a drink, I probably take Cockta, it’s a different version of Coca-Cola made in Bosnia and before that Yugoslavia.

Where’s your favourite non-poker holiday destination?

It’s hard to say as we poker players are always tempted to take our journeys to a poker destination, but I could take Velden in Austria during the summer. We have the European Championship of Poker there as well, but besides poker, the beautiful Lake Wörthersee, the bars, restaurants and the people. It’s just a good vibe. During the summer, I love to be at the sea in Croatia and during winter I love skiing, so there are a lot of nice destinations in the alps here in Austria.

Lake Wörthersee will always have a special place in Adi’s heart.

You can play poker every day for a year or play no poker for a whole 12 months – which do you choose?

Definitely no poker for 12 months. Most people underestimate how exhausting playing poker can be mentally and physically. Doing that every day for several hours, if you don’t get burned out, you will perform at C or D level at one point and that’s not my approach. I want to perform at high level every time, so breaks are also very important for me as well as physical and mental strength.

Who is the person you don’t have around anymore that you miss the most?

My grandfather. He was such an intelligent man with a big, big heart for all people. I used to visit him in his hometown of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina every year. Since he died I haven’t been back there. I still have a lot of family over there, but his death broke my heart.

Which person would you most like to meet but never have?

My father. I only know him from pictures; he left my mum during pregnancy, so I never met him. I don’t know how I would feel after so many years if I saw him for the first time. Maybe we have lot in common. Maybe he’s a good guy or maybe he’s a bad guy, I don’t know. It sounds weird, but I really have no clue which feelings would pop up if he was standing in front of me now.

When’s the last time life put you on tilt?

In 2020, I moved back to Vienna, broke, and having to sleep on my Mom’s couch in a one- bedroom apartment for several months.

If you couldn’t play the WSOP Main Event next year, which family member would you put into the action in your place?

Definitely my uncle. He’s my hero. It’s stupid to say maybe, but he was the father role in my life that was missing. He taught me a lot of male things and I definitely would pick him as he’s a very strategic person with an entrepreneurial mind. Back in the day, we played a lot of chess as well.

What’s your best poker skill?

Definitely exploiting opponents and getting reads over time. Sometimes you can forget about the theoretical part if you can put your opponent on a very specific hand, class or range. You can make hero moves or even hero folds which is also a very big part of the game.

And your biggest leak?

Gaining confidence back after making an error or mistake. I know mistakes are normal, but I’m very hard on myself and always want to make the best decision.

If you could make one rule change to poker, what would it be?

Playing every tournament with timebanks.

You have just ten seconds with the person of your dreams… what do you say?

Take off your clothes!
